Introduction to the Chakras
Ommm So Hummm…
Vibe with me, fellow Hoomans! Chakra is the Sanskrit word meaning spinning wheel. These ‘wheels’ or ‘balls’ are a system of MANY different energy points located all throughout the Hooman Body. While the actual number differs between practitioners (over 100 different chakras are claimed to exist!) there are 7 main chakras that are located along the Hooman spine, from the tailbone to the top of the skull. Each chakra corresponds to the area of the body in which it resides, a set of potential behavioral characteristics and differing stages of inner growth. Practicing yoga/meditation and focusing your energies during these practices can help you to align with your chakras and get all your wheels/Balls spinning in the same direction and at the same speed. Understanding your unique chakras can help bring balance and peace to your mind, body and inner Hooman!
Each chakra is associated with a particular body area, a specific color, potential central emotional/behavioral issues, as well as many other uniquely personal aspects including identity, goals, rights, etc. These various associates are unique to each Hooman, just like each body is unique to it's Hooman, and can be used as a sort of ‘guiding star’ in life!
The 7 chakras are:
Muladhara- also known as the Root Chakra (red)
Svadhisthana- also known as the Sacral Chakra (orange)
Manipura- Also known as the Solar Plexus Chakra (yellow)
Anahata- also known as the Heart Chakra (green)
Vishuddha- also known as the Throat Chakra (blue)
Ajna- also known as the Third Eye Chakra (indigo)
Sahasrara- Also known as the Crown Chakra (violet)
Through the practices of yoga and meditation, you can learn to focus your mind and energy to and fro within the various chakras in your body. By balancing the energy among all seven of the chakras, internal Balance can be achieved. Occlumency! Since the chakras act as valves or pumps, much like the Hooman heart has valves and pumps for blood, they can regulate the flow of energy through your system, controlled and purposeful movements such as yoga, and the controlled mental states that meditation can bring, can be extremely beneficial in balancing your chakras! Balance can have great benefits towards physical and emotional wellbeing!
